Trudeau justifies refusal to expel Russian diplomats from Canada

It turns out that the government is afraid of losing its diplomatic presence in the Russian Federation.

Justin Trudeau in parliament from Tymoshenko in the country's prime minister, that since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, not a single diplomat from the Russian Federation has been declared persona non grata.

According to Ukrinform, the head of government explained this fact by unequal diplomatic representation. According to Trudeau, if Canada expels several Russian embassy employees, this will not interfere with the work of the department. A symmetrical move by the Kremlin would jeopardize Canada's very presence at the embassy in Moscow, which has fewer staff: 17 versus 70. Asked whether maintaining diplomatic ties between Canada and Russia makes sense at all, the prime minister said that “we can do more for Ukraine and the rules-based order in the world if the embassy remains, as it did during the Cold War.”
