In the Donetsk region, the Russian army holds the initiative and forced Ukrainian units are gradually retreating.

This was reported by the head of the Intelligence Center of the Estonian Defense Forces, Colonel Ants Kiviselg, ERR reports.

The average number of attacks per day remained at the same level as in previous weeks, that is, about 167 per day. The Russians captured new territories in the Donetsk region.

“The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are capable of capturing a larger number of territories in the Donetsk region, primarily in the Pokrovsky, Kurakhovsky, Ugledarsky and Velikonovoselkovsky districts. Over the past week, the Russian Federation has occupied an additional 150 square kilometers of territory in the region,” Kiviselg said.

In addition, there are signs that the armed forces of the Russian Federation are preparing assaults in the Zaporizhia region. In all likelihood, the already known 76th Airborne Division, permanently stationed in Pskov, will participate in future attacks, then the goal will be to conquer new territories, as well as further tie down the Ukrainian armed forces in this region, the Estonian colonel added.

“It is possible that the armed forces of the Russian Federation will achieve a local breakthrough in the Pokrovsky, Kurakhovsky or Ugledarsky districts this year,” Kiviselg noted.
