Mark Rutte and Olaf Schol During the first official visit of the new NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte to Germany, Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that he does not see the need to make any new decisions regarding Ukraine's move towards membership in the Alliance.

As Deutsche Welle writes, the head of government emphasized that all the necessary steps had already been taken during the NATO summits in Vilnius in 2023 and in Washington this year. Since then, according to Scholz, “the situation has not changed.”

The official does not see the invitation of Ukraine as the priority of the Alliance's activities, but “confidence that the Ukrainians will not run out of weapons.”

Mark Rutte also did not provide new comments on the first point of President Volodymyr Zelensky's Victory Plan, which provides for an immediate invitation to Ukraine to NATO. The Secretary General limited himself to a reminder that the decision of the Washington summit contained a mention of an “irreversible path” for our country, so he is confident that “one day Ukraine will become a member of the Alliance.”
