The Guardian: Relations between Ukraine and Britain have worsened

The Labour government is disappointing Kyiv.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer

An authoritative report from an unnamed Ukrainian official close to the Presidential Office claims that relations between our country and the United Kingdom have worsened during the work of the new government led by the Labour Party.

Journalists point out that four months after his appointment as Prime Minister, Keir Starmer has still not visited Kyiv. Moreover, the Ukrainian side considers his visit meaningless unless Britain commits to replenishing its stockpiles of long-range Storm Shadow missiles. Without a decision on weapons, the Ukrainian authorities allegedly regard such a trip as “tourist”.

It is separately noted that the situation is in sharp contrast to what it was under the previous Conservative government of Rishi Sunak. “Starmer does not provide long-range weapons. If we had Storm Shadows, you would know, because we would hit Russian targets with them. But we don't,” says a source in Kyiv.

President Volodymyr Zelensky met with the British Prime Minister on the sidelines of the European Political Community summit in Hungary, but this conversation allegedly “did not lead to any progress on the missile issue”.
