Tankers carrying fuel for military ships have wrecked in the Kerch Strait, according to Greenpeace Ukraine director Natalia Gozak.
< She spoke about this in a commentary for "Krym.Realii".
“Obviously, this is fuel for military ships,” Gozak said.
According to her, a similar incident occurred in 2007, when the Volgoneft tanker sank in the Kerch Strait, resulting in about 1,500 tons of oil spilling into the sea. Even a year later, the concentration of oil products in the water was tens of times higher than normal.
Most of the spilled oil products sank to the bottom. As a result, the food supply for marine biota was damaged. Large oil spills formed on the coast that needed to be eliminated.
Gozak also added that eliminating the consequences of such pollution requires the efforts of not just one institution, but international cooperation.
“But I am sure that Russia will not provide access, the information will be as limited as possible. And I doubt very much that the Russian Federation will take any measures to eliminate the consequences. Most likely, it will remain as is,” she noted. she.
- Earlier it became known about two tankers sinking in the Kerch Strait – “Volgoneft 212” and “Volgoneft 239”. On board the tankers were 13 and 14 people respectively. The tankers were transporting more than 8 tons of fuel oil.
