The Chancellor wants to try to influence the parliamentary elections in Germany in this way.
Olaf Scholz
The German publication Spiegel may soon travel to Moscow on a “peace mission” similar to the one carried out by Viktor Orban at the beginning of the Hungarian presidency of the EU.
According to information received by journalist Konstantin Hammerstein, the Bundestag Committee on Economic Relations for Eastern European Countries is convinced that Scholz has planned a personal meeting with dictator Putin.
The Prime Minister allegedly sees this step as an opportunity to influence the course of the election campaign in Germany, where his Social Democratic Party is ahead of the far-right Alternative, which declares its commitment to Moscow.
During a press conference, Scholz himself said that he would continue to communicate with Putin in order to convince him to “stop aggression and withdraw troops from Ukraine.” The Chancellor did not specify whether these would be new phone calls or a personal meeting.
- The far-right Alternative for Germany party has been publicly supported in the upcoming elections by Donald Trump's ally Elon Musk.
