73% of Ukrainians approve of restoration of nuclear weapons

If we are talking about the loss of support and sanctions from the West, then the favorable attitude towards the restoration of nuclear weapons decreases to 46%

73% of Ukrainians are favorable. 20% do not support, and 7% have not yet decided.

This is stated in the KIIS survey.

Sociologists add that if we are talking about the loss of support and sanctions from the West , then the favorable attitude towards the restoration of nuclear weapons decreases to 46%, and the share of those who would not support such an initiative will grow to 44%. The remaining 10% have uncertain views.

However, if Ukraine has enough resources to hold out until it receives nuclear weapons, then 58% would be ready to lose Western support in order to obtain nuclear weapons. 33% would not support the decision to obtain nuclear weapons in this scenario, and 8% have uncertain views. src=”https://baltimorechronicle.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/9157a86fee9611878b12fd7357977086.jpg” alt=”73% of Ukrainians approve of restoring nuclear weapons ” />

studied how the desire to restore nuclear weapons is related to trust in NATO.

“As you can see, trust in NATO does not contradict the desire to restore nuclear weapons. Moreover, if we talk about the overall desire to restore nuclear weapons, those who trust NATO strive for this most of all,” the KIIS noted.

Sociologists recalled that in 1994, Ukraine finally renounced nuclear weapons and signed the Budapest Memorandum. In mid-1994, 50% of Ukrainians believed that Ukraine should become a non-nuclear state, while 30% were in favor of possessing nuclear weapons. The remaining 20% had undecided views.

It is important that the attitude towards nuclear weapons did not differ much depending on the region: depending on the region, approximately 25-35% wanted to retain nuclear weapons versus 45-55% who were in favor of a non-nuclear status.
