A draft resolution on recognizing Russia's actions in Ukraine as genocide has been registered in Congress In the new convocation of the US Congress, the first registered project concerning Ukraine was a resolution recognizing Russia's actions during the full-scale invasion of our country as an act of genocide.</p>
<p>As Oksana Markarova, the Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States, reported on Facebook, the authors of the project were a group that includes representatives of both leading American parties. In total, the list contains 14 names, including 10 Democrats, 3 Republicans, and a representative of the district Colombia without the right to vote.</p>
<p>The preamble of the resolution contains a clear indication that Russian attacks on civilians, direct strikes on maternity hospitals and hospitals, as well as the forced displacement of hundreds of thousands of citizens, including children, meet the criteria of Article II of the UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. </p>
<p>The document condemns the Russian Federation for committing acts of genocide against the Ukrainian people, and also calls on the United States, in cooperation with NATO and the EU, to prevent further acts of Russian genocide and supports bringing Russian political and military leaders to justice through tribunals and international criminal investigations. </p>
