As a result of the military aggression of the Russian Federation, 96% of the land territory of the Kinburn Peninsula has been destroyed by fire, – environmental inspection

The damage to the environment in Mykolaiv region is estimated at almost 300 billion UAH.

As a result of the military aggression of the Russian Federation, 96% of the land territory of the Kinburn Peninsula was destroyed by fire, - environmental inspectorate < In the Mykolaiv region, prosecutors recorded damage in the amount of almost 300 billion UAH caused to objects of the natural reserve fund of Ukraine as a result of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation.</p>
<p>As the prosecutor's office notes, the calculations of losses carried out by specialists of the State Environmental Inspectorate of the South-Western District, were based on remote sensing data, including space images, general impression maps during the war period, additional written materials, etc.</p>
<p>As a result of military aggression, the Kinburn Peninsula experienced devastating consequences due to hostilities – 96% of its land territory was destroyed by fire. In particular:</p>
<ul>
<li>within the Kinburn Spit Regional Landscape Park, 602.1 hectares of forests and other vegetation were destroyed by fires;</li>
<li>within the Black Sea Biosphere Reserve – 121.7 hectares;</li>
<li>within the Beloberezh'ye Svyatoslava National Nature Park – 6,865.6 hectares.</li>
</ul>
<p>The collected materials, together with the act of recording the damage and calculations of losses, were sent to an expert institution as part of criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Art. 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for further use as evidence of damages inflicted by the armed forces of the Russian Federation.</p>
<p>In November last year, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine Svetlana Grinchuk reported during the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku that Russia had already committed more than 6,500 crimes against the environment in Ukraine, with damages estimated at $71 billion.</p>
