Brigadier General Gennady Shapovalov to lead Ukrainian team at NSATU

Brigadier General Gennady Shapovalov will lead the Ukrainian team at NSATU in the German city of Wiesbaden.

In pursuance of the order of the President of Ukraine, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov signed the corresponding appointment.

NSATU is a NATO mission of the NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine (NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine), also known as the Ukrainian mission.”

Its main task will be to coordinate military cooperation with partners, in particular regarding the supply of military assistance to Ukraine.

General Shapovalov is a combat officer with extensive experience. He received his military education with honors in Ukraine, as well as in the United States, completing his studies at the US Army War College, which trains senior officers of the Ground Forces.

Over the years of service, he went through all stages of his military career – from a tank platoon commander to a separate motorized infantry brigade named after Yakov Handzyuk. In 2022, he was awarded the rank of brigadier general.

“This knowledge and experience will become an important tool for effective cooperation with our partners,” the Defense Ministry said in a statement.
