Among the current mayors of large Ukrainian cities, Gennady Trukhanov is one of the oldest, writes IZ with reference to Trukhanov. The current mayor of Odessa is 59 years old, and he has been governing the city for over nine years. His political career in this position began in 2014, and, despite numerous scandals and investigations, he continued to remain mayor, receiving the support of voters in several elections in a row.
For comparison, many other Ukrainian mayors are younger. For example, Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko is now 52 years old, Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi is 55 years old, and Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov is 51 years old. The political situation in the country has been unstable in recent years, which has led to changes in many city administrations, but Trukhanov has managed to maintain his position.
A long-term tenure as mayor in the Ukrainian context is a rare phenomenon, especially given the frequent change of power and political competition. Despite his age, Hennadiy Trukhanov continues to be actively involved in city administration. There is no official information about his further political plans yet, but his influence in local politics remains significant.
Whether Trukhanov will run for mayor in the next elections is an open question. However, his long tenure has already become a notable part of Odessa's political history, and regardless of future events, his figure is difficult to ignore in the context of city government.
