US court allows family of MH17 victim to sue Russia's Sberbank

The financial institution transferred funds to the “DPR” terrorists who shot down a civilian airliner.

Justice for MH-17″

The Manhattan Second Circuit Court of Appeals has unanimously upheld the right of the family of an American killed in the crash of Malaysia Airlines flight MH-17 in 2014 to sue Russia's state-owned Sberbank.

According to Reuters, the relatives of Quinn Shansman, one of 298 victims of the damage to a civilian plane by “DPR” terrorists in eastern Ukraine, accuse the financial institution of using the American banking system to transfer funds to militants who launched a surface-to-air missile at the airliner.

The judges ruled that Sberbank cannot enjoy the so-called “sovereignty immunity” provided for in the US National Anti-Terrorism Act, even after the Russian Finance Ministry bought a controlling stake in the central bank in 2020 and allegedly protected it from prosecution by making it a “state agent.”

The law firm representing the Shansman family said it expects to be able to provide new evidence of crimes to Sberbank and will seek justice for the relatives of the 18-year-old boy killed by Russian terrorists.
