In Ukraine discussing possible lock of songs in Russian on popular music platforms. The petition proposing to ban Russian -speaking content gained the necessary 25,000 votes and will be considered by the Cabinet of Ministers, writes Iz.
Collection of signatures under the relevant petition began on February 17, and within five days it was supported by more than 28 thousand Ukrainians. The author of the initiative was activist Alexander Leonenko. He emphasizes that Russian -language music can influence Ukrainian identity, form a negative attitude towards the state and promote the financing of Russian aggression.
The reason for the initiative was the scandal surrounding the entry of Russian artists into the top charts of Ukrainian strings. In particular, in February 2025, Ukrainian singers and public figures publicly expressed outrage that five songs of the Russian rapper Morgenshtern were hit by the top ten most popular tracks on Apple Music and Spotify in Ukraine.
Against this background, Leonenko created a petition on the Cabinet of Ministers' website demanding that such musical products ban. A similar situation arose earlier-in August 2022, social networks were dissatisfied with the fact that a quarter of songs in the TOP-100 Apple Music in Ukraine were Russian. This has caused active discussions on the impact of Russian music on the financing of war. “WP-BLOCK-HAADING”> Where Ukrainians listen to music
