Starting in September 2025, all secondary schools in Estonia will introduce the AI Leap educational program, which will help students learn the basics of artificial intelligence. The initiative is being implemented in collaboration with OpenAI and Anthropic. As reported by IZ with reference to the Financial Times, the training will cover 20 thousand schoolchildren and 3 thousand teachers, and from 2026 the program will be expanded to vocational education institutions.
The project is financed by a public-private fund, which has been joined by the country's leading entrepreneurs. The initial budget is 3.2 million euros, which will increase to 6 million in 2026. Estonian President Alar Karis stressed that the main goal is to develop critical thinking and skills in working with artificial intelligence, not to replace teachers.
Special attention will be paid to supporting low-income students, who will receive free computers. According to Anthropic representatives, this initiative can become a model for other countries. Similar educational programs are already being implemented in France, and now Estonia is taking an important step in the field of digital education.
