Ukrainian forces partially left the Kursk region: what happened at the front?

Ukrainian troops have partially retreated from the territory of the Kursk region, which has become the subject of numerous speculations. As IZ reports with reference to The Economist, Russian propaganda has already begun to spread information about the catastrophic turnover of Ukrainian forces, but the reality is much more complicated. According to international experts, this retreat did not become a disaster for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, although it had serious consequences for the Ukrainian army in this direction. There are different versions of how it happened that the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were surrounded, but there is currently no confirmation that they were surrounded.

Problems with supplies and the enemy's numerical superiority forced the Ukrainian troops to abandon some of their positions. In particular, Russia concentrated more than 50 thousand soldiers on this front, which is four times the strength of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The situation was complicated by the use of Russian drones, bombers and glide bombs, which did not allow for effective defense. However, the Ukrainian soldiers were able to retreat without significant losses and save most of their forces, moving to new, more fortified positions.

Media reports also suggest that US President Donald Trump's decision to temporarily suspend intelligence sharing could have affected the course of events on the front. Ukrainian intelligence officials are expressing dissatisfaction with the move, saying it has complicated defense and forced Ukrainian forces out of part of the Kursk region. At the same time, sources say Ukrainian troops are not planning to abandon the territory they hold in Russia and are in control of important strategic points.
