Terrorist attack on SBU Day prevented in Zaporizhia: Russian agents detained

In Zaporizhia on March 25, 2025, the Security Service of Ukraine prevented the preparation of a terrorist attack planned by the Russian military intelligence agency GRU, writes IZ. According to the SBU, the attackers intended to carry out an explosion near a local military unit precisely on the anniversary of the establishment of the Security Service of Ukraine.

According to the press center of the SBU, the terrorist act was planned by remotely detonating an improvised explosive device (IED) that was to be planted near the checkpoint of the defense facility. However, thanks to the operational work of counterintelligence, both agents were detained before their plan could be implemented.

The arrest took place in a private house located opposite a military unit. The suspects rented the apartment as an observation post, where they installed a hidden webcam to transmit information to Russian special services. According to the investigation, the suspects are a boy and a girl aged 18 and 19, who came to the attention of the Russian GRU through Telegram channels offering “easy money.”

During the searches, components for making an explosive device, a video camera, and mobile phones with evidence of participation in the preparation of a terrorist attack were seized from them. The detainees were informed of suspicion under articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, in particular, for high treason and preparation for committing a terrorist act. They face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
