At the Koroszczyn border crossing, Polish customs officials detained a truck carrying five tons of aircraft tires intended for Boeing civilian airplanes. According to the accompanying documentation, the cargo was declared as tires for cars and buses. However, inspection revealed that the shipment contained aviation tires, which fall under European Union sanctions imposed following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, reports the Baltimore Chronicle with reference to Reuters.

The shipment originated from a Spanish company, with Azerbaijan listed as the final destination. The planned route included transit through Belarus and Russia. Poland’s National Revenue Administration reported a violation of customs regulations and launched criminal proceedings for customs fraud. The sanctioned goods were confiscated.

This incident highlights ongoing attempts to circumvent international sanctions by falsifying documentation and using indirect transit routes through third countries. Previous reports have documented similar schemes, where goods destined for the Caucasus or Central Asia disappeared on Russian territory, effectively remaining within the sanctioned jurisdiction.
