As a result of Russian attacks on February 9 on an oil depot in About 3 thousand tons of oil leaked in the Kharkov region. It ended up in the rivers Uda, Lopan, Nemyshl, and Kharkov.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine.

“We have the first tentative estimates of damage from water pollution. They amount to more than 30 million hryvnia. For the final calculation, it is necessary to conduct a number of studies, take samples and add this case to the general basket of crimes against the environment that Russia is committing on our territory,” said the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine Ruslan Strelets.

It is indicated that the approximate area of ​​the contaminated water surface is 780 thousand square meters.

Ruslan Strelets noted that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, more than 3.8 thousand cases of environmental damage have been recorded.

At the same time, the amount of damage reaches almost 2.2 trillion hryvnia.

The minister also emphasized that Ukraine for the first time reported suspicion of committing ecocide to a Russian colonel general and four of his subordinates.
