NATO has finally decided to promise Ukraine a “no-return path” to membership, – ZMI

NATO countries have learned that Ukraine is on a “no-return path” to membership in the Alliance. And this formulation was included in the final draft of the joint statement of the Washington summit.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to The Guardian.

As The Guardian reports, according to anonymous sources AFP, in the final declaration of the NATO summit the countries will support Ukraine on “its irreversible path towards full Euro-Atlantic integration, including membership in NATO.”

The publication meant that the declaration also repeats the previous formulations about those that Ukraine will receive an official request for membership “if the allies agree and the agreements are implemented.”

NATO summit

We remind you that this week a NATO summit will be held in Washington. One of the key issues is Ukraine's membership in the Alliance.

According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukraine understands that it will not accept the request to join the Alliance at the summit, but is waiting to see “something similar to a request.”

At the same time, Polish President Andrzej Duda hopes that Ukraine will accept the request to join NATO at the next summit.

Meanwhile, according to US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia Douglas Jones, at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization summit the alliance will offer Ukraine “specific steps” to speed up its future membership in NATO.
