U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Keith Kellogg stated that he had tried to convey to Donald Trump the significance of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s efforts to preserve Ukraine’s sovereignty, reports Baltimore Chronicle with reference to European Pravda.
Kellogg emphasized that no American president since Abraham Lincoln had done what Zelenskyy is currently doing. Drawing a historical parallel, he underscored that the Ukrainian head of state is waging a war for the survival of the nation on his own soil—something Abraham Lincoln also had to do during the American Civil War.
“President Zelenskyy is fighting a war for the survival of a nation on his land. This is exactly what Abraham Lincoln did—he fought for national sovereignty and the survival of the nation,” Kellogg said. He added that Americans often fail to grasp the full scale of events in Ukraine, as they cannot put themselves in Ukrainians’ shoes or comprehend how to find a way out of the current critical situation.
Kellogg expressed concern that the public in the United States often lacks the empathy or understanding necessary to recognize the level of threat Ukraine faces every day on the battlefield.
