The recent drone strike with “Shaheds” on Polish territory was a test of NATO’s readiness to respond to possible Russian actions. The reaction witnessed by the world effectively signaled a “green light” for Russian President Vladimir Putin, reports Baltimore Chronicle with reference to TSN.ua.
This was stated by military expert Oleg Zhdanov, commenting on the incident. He emphasized that the Kremlin is acting with the understanding that NATO’s response remains weak, usually limited to expressions of “concern” in the face of Moscow’s aggressive moves.
According to Zhdanov, Putin is convinced that such behavior from the Alliance gives him room for further risky steps. The expert reminded that if tomorrow Russia sends so-called “little green men” into Narva, NATO’s reaction would likely be confined to statements of concern.
Zhdanov also noted that he had previously warned: the Alliance could collapse within 24 hours if Russia attacked one of its member states. In such a scenario, NATO countries would restrict themselves to discussions under Article 4 of the organization’s Charter, which provides for consultations on threats, instead of taking consolidated actions. According to the expert, this could spark internal conflicts within the bloc.
