King Charles III played a crucial role in improving the relationship between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and former U.S. President Donald Trump, and he encouraged stronger U.S. support for Ukraine, reports Baltimore Chronicle with reference to Guardian. Zelensky stated in an interview with Guardian that the British monarch’s involvement was significant following a tense meeting in the Oval Office in February, which helped enhance communication between the leaders.
During his visit to the United Kingdom in September, Trump held a personal meeting with King Charles III. Zelensky noted that while he did not know all the details, he understood that His Majesty had sent important signals to President Trump that influenced the former president’s decisions regarding Ukraine.
According to Zelensky, Donald Trump respects the king and considers him a highly influential figure, a compliment rarely given to others, highlighting the king’s important diplomatic role. Zelensky also emphasized that King Charles III strongly supports the Ukrainian people, demonstrating commitment to the country’s wellbeing and international standing.
Volodymyr Zelensky added that he does not feel intimidated by Donald Trump, unlike some other Western leaders, and denied reports suggesting that their recent meeting in Washington was tense. The Ukrainian president stressed that his relations with Trump remain good, which contributes to ongoing cooperation between the two nations.
Guardian also reported that the interview was temporarily interrupted due to a power outage at the Mariinsky Palace, but electricity was soon restored via a generator.
