On the fact that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban is likely to become interim president of the European Council if the current head, Charles Michel, renounces his post after being elected to the European Parliament, but there are nuances, writes NBN, citing the Politico material.
As it became known, in situation when Michel leaves for the European Parliament in mid-July, after his possible election, the leaders of the European Union will need to urgently agree on his successor. If this issue is not quickly resolved, Orban, whose country is due to take over a rotating 6-month presidency of the Council of the EU from July, will find himself interim President of the European Council for a similar period.
However, now Most of the 26 heads of state of the EU desperately wanted to prevent such an option, given the increased tension between them and Orbán, in particular due to the pressing issue of blocking the extension of Hungarian support for Ukraine.
