The ISW analytical material notes that the aggressor country is trying to drive a wedge between Ukraine and its neighbors in the West, using neo-imperialist and nationalist sentiments in these states, NBN reports.

Experts drew attention to the fact that the deputy National Assembly of Hungary, the leader of the far-right party Mi Hazank, Laszlo Torocki, dreamed of Transcarpathia. The politician said that his country “must lay claim” to this region in the event of Ukraine’s defeat in the war with the Russian Federation.

In addition to the Hungarian MP, the leader of the Romanian ASR party, Claudiu Tarziu, said that his country “needs to integrate” its neighboring Ukrainian territories. The politician believes that this will supposedly help Romania maintain its sovereignty. For the sake of the annexation of the Ukrainian regions, Tyrziu is even ready to sacrifice NATO membership.

American analysts recalled that the Russian Federation proposed the idea of dividing the territories of Ukraine between neighboring states before February 22, 2022.

Relevant statements The Kremlin stepped up its efforts in December last year. Dictator Vladimir Putin and his associates have stated that Ukraine allegedly has historical “territorial disputes” with Hungary, Poland and Romania. Moscow argued that the country would allegedly be able to maintain its sovereignty only if it consisted of the borders of the Lviv region.

ISW notes that with the help of this ultranationalist concept, which has spread among some European political forces, the Russian Federation is trying to drive a wedge between Ukraine and its western neighbors.

Analysts previously described how the Russians are using ideas about the “separation” of Texas from the United States to destabilize the country.
