Extension of the “preferential regime” of trade for Ukraine: which provisions of the document will be worsened by the EU

Agrarians of several countries neighboring Ukraine have been actively protesting in recent months against the so-called “preferences” for Kiev provided for by the agreement on “preferential treatment” of trade with the EU, and, as it turned out, some of the points of this document they will change it anyway.

About the fact that the “preferential regime” of trade for Ukraine, introducing a temporary abolition of fees and quotas on domestic exports to the European Union, will be extended for 1 year, but with some adjustments, writes NBN, citing a press release published on the official page of the European Commission.

In particular, it is planned to introduce enhanced mechanisms for protecting the internal market of the European Union or individual states into the updated autonomous trade measures. ;EU, taking into account the increased volume of imports of certain types of agricultural products from Ukraine in the period from 2022 to 2023.

As it became known, such adjustments will affect the most sensitive products—meat poultry, eggs and sugar—will introduce an “emergency brake” to stabilize Ukrainian imports at average volumes. Moreover, if such average indicators are exceeded by Ukraine, “duties will be re-introduced.”
