Refusal to privatize a land share in 2024: a lawyer explained whether the state can take away the plot

The current land legislation provides that plots that were not privatized during 2024 may be seized from their nominal owners in favor of the state.

About whether Ukrainians will really be taken away from their land plots, writes NBN, citing the explanation of lawyer Maria Levchenko, sounded on the YouTube channel “Pani in  laws.”

Based on Levchenko’s words, in art. The 13th Law of Ukraine “On the procedure for allocating land plots” states that by 2025 citizens should transfer agricultural plots into their own ownership, otherwise it will be determined that the population has abandoned their shares. However, it is necessary to take into account that during the period of martial law, the process of privatization of land plots is “paused”, therefore all of the above goes beyond the scope of the law, that is, the plots cannot be taken away.

Except In addition, this February, parliamentarians began discussing the possibility of extending the terms of land privatization for at least another 1 year after the end of the war, but since the bill has not been adopted, this requirement remains until 2025.
