About is it possible to speed up the investigation process of this execution, writes NBN, referring to the explanation voiced by the Deputy Head of the Department for Combating Crimes Committed in Armed Conflict of the Office of the Prosecutor General Taras Semkiv, aired on the national telethon on the TSN YouTube channel.
According to Semkiv, in accordance with the facts of the incident, in particular, video evidence of the execution of captured Ukrainian military personnel, criminal proceedings were promptly registered, and the investigation has not yet been completed, since the clarification of the circumstances that can be seen in the footage continues . In addition, identification of executed individuals from the Armed Forces of Ukraine personnel is carried out, including verification of the involvement of certain invaders in the execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war.
The law enforcement officer added that there is not yet enough information that would allow making specific procedural decisions in this proceeding, since the whole procedure does not happen too quickly – “justice in Ukraine is actually different from justice in the Russian Federation” by the absence of hasty conclusions. The deputy head of the department for combating crimes emphasized that the Prosecutor General's Office bases its decisions solely on evidence obtained during the pre-trial investigation.
In addition to all of the above, Semkiv emphasized that verification of facts is a complex and lengthy process, since the relevant structures Ukraine does not have free access to territories where war crimes could potentially have been committed by studying the sites of incidents with UAVs.
