ISW assessed whether the received number of F-16s will be enough for Ukraine to effectively defend itself against Russian air attacks

On August 4, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Kyiv had received the first batch of F-16s from its partners. The Washington Institute for the Study of War has assessed whether the Ukrainian Armed Forces have received enough fighters to effectively defend against Russian air attacks and perform combat missions.

The ISW analytical material notes that the Ukrainian Defense Forces need a much larger number of F-16s to achieve tangible results in repelling air attacks by the Russian Armed Forces and effectively performing combat missions, reports “NBN”.

American experts write that in order to expand the air defense “umbrella” and integrate Western aviation, the Ukrainian Armed Forces must receive more American fighters.

Also, in order to safely use the aircraft and eliminate the risk of their destruction by Russian invaders, the defenders need to regularly destroy air defense installations in the rear of the aggressor country and in the temporarily captured regions of Ukraine, using Western long-range weapons for attacks.

We recall that Western media reported how many F-16s Ukraine will receive from its allies by the end of this year.
