In an interview with former MP Borislav Bereza, Portnikov said that the head of the Kremlin is afraid of losing power during his rule, so the prospect of losing control over Russian cities is critical for him, NBN reports.
The journalist recalled Putin's reaction to the hostage-taking in a Moscow theater during during the musical “Nord-Ost” in 2002. At the meeting, Mikhail Kasyanov, who was the head of the Russian government at the time, said that it was necessary to act in such a way as to save people's lives. However, the dictator shouted that they could lose power due to a delay of several days.
The analyst is convinced that it is military operations and raids on Russian territory that can frighten the Kremlin. Using Putin's fear of losing control over Russian cities, Ukraine can create the formula “a long period of peace with the Russian Federation – a short period of war.”
The publicist explained that during exhausting military operations, the defenders can enter enemy territory, just as Israel entered Syrian territory. If the Russians want to destroy Ukraine, its only chance to survive is to reach “Damascus”, that is, Moscow.
