As NBN reports with reference to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), with such an attempt Putin is only trying to distract the attention of Russian society from the “uncomfortable situation” that has developed in the Kursk region.
In particular, during a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, the strengthening of Russian-Azerbaijani bilateral relations was allegedly discussed: this concerns strengthening energy ties, introducing Russian-language initiatives and the readiness of the aggressor country to act as a mediator in the peaceful settlement of relations between Yerevan and Baku.
According to analysts from British military intelligence, the period of Putin's visit deserves special attention, since, given the crisis situation in the Kursk region, such a meeting with Aliyev is rather aimed at “downplaying the scale and consequences of the Ukrainian invasion”, that is, shifting the focus from the “uncomfortable” situation in the Russian Federation while simultaneously filling the media space with Moscow's ostentatious global diplomatic activity and its “successes”.
Earlier, we wrote that ISW reported how many personnel the Russian Federation had transferred from Ukraine to defend Kursk region.
