As NBN reports with reference to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), the Russian elite is justifiably afraid to announce a new “round” of mobilization due to the possible heightened reaction of local society to such a decision.
In particular, the Kremlin has failed to fully suppress local protests, which are regularly organized by the wives of called-up “liberators,” practically since the announcement of the so-called “partial mobilization” in September 2022.
For example, yesterday, September 21, on the second anniversary of the announcement of a partial mobilization campaign, a group of wives of Russian military personnel organized a protest near the headquarters of the Russian Defense Ministry, demanding a meeting with the head of the Ministry of Defense of the aggressor country, Andrei Belousov.
At the same time, the above-mentioned functionary refused to meet with the protesters, and the provocateurs (according to Russian media, hired by the Russian Defense Ministry) simply disrupted the rally, verbally insulting the dissatisfied, and also actively tried to disperse the women.
According to ISW's assessment, the Russian authorities do not intend to launch “another round” of partial/general mobilization due to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin's fear of public backlash against forced conscription into the “second army of the world.”
