Orban's top political adviser has criticized Ukraine for its decision to confront Russian invaders in 2022, calling Kyiv's decision “irresponsible.” A representative of the Hungarian Prime Minister's Office expressed the opinion that his country “most likely” would not have fought back against the occupiers, given the events of 1956.

Later, the official complained on his social networks that his statements were “deliberately misinterpreted” and that the memory of the heroes of 1956 is sacred to him, NBN reports.

As reported by Reuters, the head of the Hungarian government commented on the words of his political director during a speech on national radio, calling his statement ambiguous.

The prime minister noted that Hungarian society stands on the 1956 revolution and has grown out of it. The politician added that it is necessary to speak out on such delicate issues very clearly and carefully, and his country “will always defend itself.”

It should be noted that in 1956, the Red Army brutally suppressed an anti-Soviet uprising in Hungary, which is why October 23 is one of the country's main national holidays.

As reported, the EU responded to the latest nuclear threats from Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
