China, together with other “like-minded countries” of the Global South, intends to form a “Friends of Peace” platform to resolve the “Ukrainian crisis.”

As reported by NBN, citing a Voice of America article, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell criticized Hungary's decision to participate in the Friends of Peace program organized by Beijing and Brasilia for discussions within the framework of the so-called “peace proposal” for Ukraine.

According to Borrell, even if Washington stops providing military aid to Kyiv (after Donald Trump's conditional victory in the US presidential election), the EU will maintain a stable political commitment to supporting Ukraine, despite clear evidence of depleted unity among European states.

In particular, the EU's top diplomat pointed to one, far from powerful, country that is beginning to think in terms of “capitulation” when talking about peace (Hungary). Of course, no one there uses the term “capitulation”, but their position is equivalent to this word.

Borrell emphasized:

And for the first time I see that an EU Member State [Hungary] is participating today in a meeting convened by China and Brazil to discuss achieving peace through a different approach than Zelensky's plan.

At the same time, the EU High Representative summarized: the above-described situation is unique, while expressing confidence that such sentiments “will not lead to a pandemic among Member States [EU]”.

Earlier we wrote that Moscow would use the Chinese platform “Friends of Peace” to imitate peace efforts and discredit Kyiv.
