The former Deputy Chief of the General Staff of Ukraine in an interview with OBOZ.UA stated that a very threatening situation has developed around Ugledar – Russian forces have taken the city into semi-encirclement. Now the threat of the capture of the settlement is greater than ever.

According to him, the defenders held their positions for two years, but recently the occupiers managed to approach the outskirts of Ugledar, NBN reports.

Romanenko explained that the situation around the city has significantly worsened due to the main problem – the lack of people in the Defense Forces. The general noted that the recently adopted law on mobilization cannot quickly resolve the issue of creating reserve brigades and staffing units that are already participating in hostilities.

The former deputy chief of the General Staff concluded that even with the appropriate fortifications, the Armed Forces of Ukraine need well-trained fighters, which are currently in short supply.

Earlier, Western media reported that fighters of the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade began to “quietly retreat” from Ugledar. The brigade responded to the publication's statement.
