Political analyst and journalist Vitaly Portnikov predicted when real negotiations to end the war will begin between Ukraine and Russia.

Portnikov in an interview with OBOZ.UA stated that real negotiations between Kiev and Moscow on ending the hostilities can begin only after both sides are exhausted, NBN reports.
According to him, even if Ukraine is exhausted, Western partners will still help it until some reasonable terms of agreement with the Kremlin are found. However, the Russian Armed Forces must also be exhausted, and Moscow must see that it is achieving nothing on the battlefield.
The expert noted that Kyiv, in turn, will want to receive guarantees of Ukraine's integration into the EU and NATO from its allies not in media reports, but in documents that will provide the country with security guarantees, in accordance with Article 5 of the Alliance.
Portnikov added that it is not the American leader, nor the US presidential candidates, nor the head of Ukraine or the leader of China who should be asked about the start and end of negotiations, but the Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin, who can end the war in 24 hours if he wants to. The journalist recalled that he has been talking about this since 2022.
As reported, the German Foreign Ministry revealed the requirement for the start of peace negotiations between Ukraine and the Russian Federation.
