ISW Reveals Reason for Sharp Increase in RF Counteroffensive in Kursk Region (MAP)

Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Alexander Syrsky stated that since the beginning of the August operation of the Defense Forces, the command of the Russian Armed Forces has redeployed about 50,000 soldiers to the Kursk region to strengthen counter-offensive actions.

As reported by NBN, citing the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), in the period from October 10 to 11, Putin's army intensified counterattacks in the Kursk region, seeking to displace the Ukrainian Armed Forces due to the approach of unfavorable weather conditions, which will begin to limit the maneuvers of the Russians on the battlefield due to the soggy soil.

Analysts at the Institute for the Study of War suggest that the Russian generals are apparently concerned that the bad weather forecast for the fall/early winter of 2024-2025 will force the “second army in the world” to switch to positional confrontation (“trench warfare”) in the Kursk region. Such a delay will give the Ukrainian Armed Forces more time to set up extensive fortifications and consolidate their positions on the captured bridgeheads, and this will “further complicate Russia's attempts to push Ukrainian troops back across the border.”

Thus, the “liberators” probably feel that the “window of opportunity” to push the Ukrainian army out of the Kursk region with the amount of manpower and armored vehicles that the Russian Defense Ministry has allocated for this will soon close.

Earlier we wrote about how the OSCE reported how much “manpower” the RF loses for every 100 m² of Ukrainian land captured.
