Experts explain why the cost of tomatoes reached a “historic maximum” in October

Domestic farmers continue to raise prices for tomatoes, taking advantage of the reduced supply on the domestic market and consistently high demand from buyers.

As reported by NBN with reference to the material of the analytical project EastFruit, unfavorable weather conditions provoked a reduction in tomato yields, and a decrease in average daily temperature indicators increased the costs of agricultural producers for storage, which, naturally, affected prices.

In particular, greenhouse tomatoes are now on sale at a price of 55-65 hryvnia per kilogram, which is, on average, 10 percent more than last week, and this price has broken a 7-year record. If we compare it with 2023, the cost of greenhouse tomatoes in Ukraine has increased by an average of 22 percent.
