A member of the Bundestag said on ARD that he is in favor of providing Taurus cruise missiles to the Ukrainian Defense Forces, NBN reports with reference to on the N-tv channel.
The future candidate for the post of German chancellor is convinced that the sending of long-range weapons, which Kyiv has long been asking Berlin for, could take place under one condition.
The politician proposed first demanding that Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin stop attacks on Ukrainian civilian targets. According to the leader of the Christian Democratic Union party, if the Russian leader continues to strike them, the West should allow the Defense Forces to strike the territory of the aggressor country with its weapons.
Scholz's competitor added that after this, Germany should take the next important step – send Taurus cruise missiles to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
It should be noted that the head of the German government Olaf Scholz has repeatedly refused to transfer long-range weapons to Ukraine, stating that his position on this issue remains unchanged.
As reported, the German Foreign Ministry said that the head of the Kremlin refused to have a telephone conversation with the chancellor.
