The head of the German government in an interview with the German publication Schweriner Volkszeitung admitted that his country's citizens did not explain why it is important for Berlin to provide military and other assistance to Ukraine, NBN reports.

According to the Chancellor, during civil dialogues in his country, people began to ask more often whether this level of support for Ukrainians is correct. The politician explained this by the fact that there had been no discussions on this topic in the media for a long time, otherwise more Germans would understand the importance of providing assistance to Kyiv.

Scholz noted that as Chancellor, he was asked why he would not transfer more weapons to the Ukrainian Armed Forces even faster, but no one asked whether Berlin's actions were correct. The head of government added that he forgot to explain why it is important to help Ukraine and remain balanced – not to do everything that some loudly demand.

The Chancellor once again emphasized that his position regarding sending Taurus cruise missiles to Kyiv and using German weapons to shell the entire territory of the Russian Federation remains unchanged.

At the same time, his competitor Friedrich Merz said that he is ready to provide Ukraine with the corresponding long-range missiles, but on one condition.
