The Prosecutor General of Ukraine in an interview with the Belgian told La Libre that the number of executions of prisoners of war by the invaders has increased over the past year. Kostin emphasized that the killings of Ukrainian soldiers by the enemy are not isolated crimes, but a deliberate policy of the aggressor country, writes NBN.
According to him, most war criminals from the Russian Federation have been convicted in absentia by Ukrainian courts. At the same time, it is extremely difficult to investigate the crimes of the invaders during the war.
Speaking about the killings of captured soldiers of the Defense Forces by the Russians, Kostin said that the occupiers have begun to commit such crimes more often. Torture and executions of defenders without trial or investigation are weapons of war, intimidation and destruction of the Russian Armed Forces.
The Prosecutor General revealed that Ukraine has evidence that such actions of the enemy are a deliberate policy of the aggressor country. For example, there is an audio recording of an order from an officer of Putin's army not to take Ukrainian soldiers prisoner, but to execute them on the battlefield.
Kostin added that one of the main tasks of our justice system is to hold Russia accountable for its aggression, as a result of which more than 140,000 war crimes have already occurred in Ukraine.
Recall that on October 10, in the Kursk region, invaders shot Ukrainian soldiers. Ombudsman Dmitry Lubinets responded to the mass execution of defenders.
