Head of State Volodymyr Zelensky explained why Ukraine needs to join NATO, speaking about integration into the North Atlantic Alliance “in parts.”

During a meeting with media representatives after talks with the head of the US Defense Department Lloyd Austin, the head of state spoke about Ukraine's desire to join NATO, NBN reports with reference to RBC-Ukraine.
The guarantor recalled that many years ago our country renounced nuclear weapons, counting on integration into the North Atlantic Alliance. Kyiv gave up the arsenal, but did not receive the promised security for the country.
Zelensky explained that Ukraine needs to become part of the organization to protect itself from Russian aggression, since it does not have weapons that can stop the Kremlin dictator.
Speaking about the country's integration into NATO “in parts”, the president said that no one will legally recognize the temporarily captured regions as territories of other states. The Ukrainian leader added that the invitation to the Alliance is given to the country within internationally recognized borders, and it is important for him to receive it during the war.
Earlier, the president answered whether he had received proposals to exchange occupied territories for Ukraine's membership in NATO.
