Mieriņa during a joint press conference with Verkhovna Rada Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk stated that Riga supports Ukraine's accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, NBN reports.

According to her, the Latvian authorities hope that at the Alliance summit in The Hague, the organization's members will be able to make a political decision to invite Ukraine to the North Atlantic Alliance. The event is scheduled for August 24-26, 2025.

The politician added that Riga and Kyiv will work to achieve this goal.

In turn, the speaker of the Verkhovna Rada stated that the Verkhovna Rada and the Saeima have agreed to create a parliamentary assembly. Stefanchuk explained that this would correspond to the current strategic level of cooperation between the two states.

Recall that President Volodymyr Zelensky explained why Ukraine needs integration into the Alliance. The head of state also spoke about integrating the country into the organization “in parts”.
