Today, Orthodox Ukrainians, according to the new church calendar, honor the memory of the martyrs Zinovy and Zinovia, reports “NBN” with reference to TSN.ua.
Zinovy lived in the first half of the 3rd century, he was a Roman military tribune, Zinovia is his sister. They accepted the Christian faith from their parents from childhood and led a pious life.
The military leader was accused of apostasy from Emperor Decius, who demanded that Christians worship idols. Zinovy refused to carry out the order and was sentenced to death. Before his execution, he was cruelly tortured, but he did not renounce Jesus.
His sister was also captured and tortured, after which she was executed. However, Zinovia remained faithful to Christ to the end.
According to folk traditions, on this day it is forbidden to quarrel, slander, or refuse to help those in need. It is also not advisable to declare your love or get married, as the marriage will be short-lived. In addition, today it is not recommended to borrow anything, as this can lead to a quarrel with the person who gave you the money or thing.
