At the beginning of last year, Ukraine received 14 MiG-29 multirole fighters from Warsaw, but now the Polish leadership refuses to hand these over to Kyiv. aircraft.

Defense Express analysts note that Poland is the only European country that still has combat-ready aircraft of this type, the NBN publication reports.

The Military Balance report for this year notes that at the beginning of 2024, the country had 11 MiG-29 fighters, 3 MiG-29UB aircraft and 48 American F-16 multirole fighters. Warsaw intends to modernize the latter, for which it received permission from the United States.

Experts explained that the Polish authorities do not want to transfer the MiG-29 to Ukraine, as they want to play it safe at their expense during the F-16 modernization process. The threat of aggression from the Russian Federation remains relevant for the country.

According to analysts, the Poles also have problems with the FA-50 aircraft, which they purchased from South Korea for $3 billion – the United States has still not allowed the integration of American AIM-120 guided missiles into these aircraft.

Earlier, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski commented on Warsaw's refusal to send MiG-29s to Ukraine.
