British TV channel Sky News quotes the former special adviser on Russian and Eurasian affairs to the commander-in-chief of the ground forces US troops in Europe Mark Voiger. He said that Trump may begin to put pressure on Kyiv in order to achieve peace, writes NBN.
According to Voiger, the Republican wants to prove to the United States and the world that he is fulfilling his promises. To do this, the politician is ready to put pressure on the Ukrainian leadership so that it makes concessions to the Kremlin and signs a peace treaty with the Russian Federation.
The expert emphasized that the newly elected American president intends to achieve a ceasefire not for the sake of justice, or the restoration of Ukraine's sovereignty and punishment of Russia for aggression, but simply for the sake of peace itself, in order to fulfill what he promised voters.
It is possible that the Republican may begin to threaten Kyiv with the cessation of military aid in order to persuade it to peace talks. At the same time, as Voiger noted, the politician does not have any leverage over the Russian dictator.
Earlier, the media reported that the 47th head of the White House intends to bring Ukraine and Russia to the negotiating table on the first day of his presidency.
