Portnikov commented on the information from The Economist that Trump's inauguration day, January 20, 2025, could be the first moment for a possible end to hostilities in Ukraine, reports “NBN”.
The journalist recalled that the Republican is not yet officially the American president and will be able to make any decisions as head of state only after the inauguration ceremony, which will take place in January.
According to him, it does not matter what ceasefire date Washington announces under the presidency of Biden or Trump, since it matters whether the Kremlin agrees with this date. If Moscow approves it, the Republican can count on some kind of settlement, otherwise it does not matter what the new head of the White House says.
The analyst believes that the very fact of the conversation between the newly elected US president and Vladimir Putin is a victory for the Kremlin dictator, given that Biden refused to communicate with the head of the Russian Federation after the start of a full-scale invasion.
Earlier, the head of the NATO Military Committee Rob Bauer spoke about Trump's promises to end the Russian war against Ukraine in just one day.
