As the military portal Defence Express writes, the Chief of the General Staff of the Netherlands Onno Eichelsheim in a comment to journalists from the Breaking Defense publication said that NATO should avoid sending a large number of systems to Ukraine, because it does not have enough pilots.
According to him, the Alliance should take a “balanced view” of what capabilities are needed now, NBN reports.
The Chief of the General Staff believes that it does not make sense to transfer French Mirage 2000-5 fighters to the Ukrainian Armed Forces now. Eichelsheim explained the refusal to send such aircraft by “the dispersion of resources and the need to support several similar systems.”
He is convinced that the organization should prepare the Ukrainian military well to work with the F-16, provide spare parts for these fighters, logistics, weapons and money so that these aircraft can operate continuously.
Defence Express analysts agreed with the idea that a unified fleet of fighters of one type in the Ukrainian Defense Forces is much better than a “zoo.” However, given the limited number of F-16s with the required 126 units of such aircraft, for our country a “zoo” is becoming a condition for survival.
Recall that in October the media reported that at the beginning of next year, Kyiv will receive three Mirage fighters armed with SСALP and AASM.
