Reuters, citing a senior diplomat of the Alliance, writes that it will take weeks and months to reach a consensus on Ukraine's accession to the military-political bloc, The NBN publication reports.
Journalists recalled that the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Andriy Sybiga, sent a letter to his colleagues in NATO member states, urging them to make a positive decision in favor of his country. The Kyiv representative believes that membership in the organization would eliminate one of the main arguments of the Russian Federation in favor of waging war – the desire to prevent Ukraine's integration into the Alliance.
Unnamed diplomats claim that there is no sign of consensus on this issue among the 32 members of the bloc so that a decision could be made at the meeting of foreign ministers in Brussels.
A high-ranking official from the United States said that diplomats at the event would focus on expanding support for Ukraine so that Kyiv could take the strongest possible position in possible negotiations with Moscow.
Recall that, as reported in Defense Express, the Alliance does not see any point in transferring Gripen fighters to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
