As reported by NBN with reference to the Telegram channel of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine, the head of this department Svetlana Grinchuk made a statement— for To properly clean up key areas in the next decade, at least $38 billion is needed.

According to Grinchuk, the total area of land potentially “contaminated” by explosive devices currently amounts to at least 139,000 square kilometers, and, according to the World Bank's estimates, it costs between $2 and $8 to clear 1 square meter.

The head of the Ministry of Natural Resources added that forest areas are considered especially dangerous, with about 4,500 square kilometers of them requiring demining, as well as protected areas in frontline areas: over the past two years, only 10 percent of land.

At the same time, the official noted that even with the use of innovative technologies, the demining process could take from tens to hundreds of years.
