The head of the Center for Countering Disinformation assumed how many fighters of the “second army of the world” Moscow can transfer from Syria to Ukraine. According to him, as of the summer of 2024, there were about 6,000-7,000 Russian soldiers on the territory of the country, in particular mercenaries of private military companies, the NBN publication reports.
Kovalenko noted that if the fighters of the Russian Armed Forces return to the territory of the aggressor country with subsequent dispatch to the combat zone in Ukraine, the situation on the front will not change significantly, given the large losses of the occupiers during daily assaults. The lieutenant added that the Kremlin could transfer most of these soldiers to Africa.
The day before, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported that after the overthrow of the Bashar al-Assad regime, the Russian authorities began to withdraw their contingent from Syria, in particular ships from the base in Tartus, and also to transfer the remaining weapons from the Khmeimim airbase.
The Politexpert publication wrote that US policy towards Syria could change after Trump's return to the White House.
As reported, Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko asked Putin to deploy the Oreshnik systems in his country. The head of the Central Intelligence Directorate commented on the Kremlin leader's promise to provide Minsk with these weapons.
